If the SAG results are any indication, "Promising Young Woman" is done, and we should celebrate that. While the Oscars are nowhere near as culturally relevant as they once were, they are effective as advertising. PYW is targeted at girls and women under 40, and due to its soundtrack and Laverne Cox (absurdly, she is much more famous in the US than the great actress Carey Mulligan) it has already drawn significantly more attention from its intended audience than a film of this kind ordinarily would. So, a lot of females have already received PYW's noxious misandrist, right-wing (read WSWS's accurate review), implicitly racist (intentionally or not, US feminazism ALWAYS disproportionately affects black men and by extension blacks in general) message. The nominations the film has received have raised its profile and increased its audience. Wins would grow the audience even more. If its Oscar run is dead in the water, I thank the gods.
